The Captain

The Boat

Picture
Captain Tony “Monk” Vernola has a lifelong passion for fishing that developed since he caught his first sunfish in a New Jersey river as a young boy.  Growing up in Brooklyn NY, he would ride his bike every day to Jamaica Bay, to fish his “secret” spots.  That progressed to taking city buses and trains to Sheepshead Bay party boats, often bringing home sacks of fish on the bus.

Eventually his skill was noted by the captains and he officially became a “Deadhead” or ”Puller”. This position was given to  a person that did not pay to get on the boat, but left his fish for the crew to sell. He then became a full-fledged Mate.  He received his first 100mile/100 ton captains license in 1977, after working as a mate on several well know party boats in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn.

Our vessel is a 21’ Boston Whaler Conquest powered by a 175HP Yamaha capable of speeds over 30MPH. When needed, forward and side curtains will keep you out of the “Weather” while cruising. State of the art electronics are on board including Down Scan CHIRP (Hi-Def) and Side Scan Sonar. There are two different chart plotters for accurate navigation. The vessel is equipped with a power windlass (anchoring system). It has a live well for keeping your catch fresh all day.
An enclosed cuddy cabin with Porta-Potty and storage to keep your items dry will add to you comfort.
